چکیده

In this paper, we address the problem of guaranteeing end-to-end (ETE) delay of packets in a distributed system where the technique of time division multiplex access (TDMA) is adopted, and the application at the destination node requires to process the packets at a regular rate. We present a time slot allocation algorithm to satisb the transmission rate requirement, and to minimize the scheduling jitter. Each packet of a stream is delivered in an allocated time slot according to one of the two delivery protocolsproposed in this paper. A worst case ETE delay bound is derived for each protocol. The performance of applying our scheduling algorithm to different delivery protocols is compared and evaluated via simulations.

Performance Comparison of 802.16 Centralized Scheduling Algorithms

IEEE 802.16 mesh standard specifies uses Time Division Multiple Access (TDMA) technology to provide end-to-end Quality-of-Service (QoS). However, the performance in the mesh depends on TDMA scheduling algorithms. A new class of TDMA scheduling algorithms, based on the BellmanFord algorithm, was proposed recently. This class of TDMA scheduling algorithms takes into account many of the QoS issues...

Communication Support for Tightly-coupled Distributed Mobile Applications

One of the major challenges faced by designers of ad hoc network systems is supporting the deployment of applications that require tightly constrained communication support. Examples of this application class include emergency response systems, military systems and mobile or sensor-based scientific applications. This paper describes QoS-AODV ̧ an integrated End-to-End Delay (EED) bounded route d...

Real-time multimedia scheduling policies for end-to-end delay jitter and loss guarantees across ATM satellite systems

We propose a simple first-in first-out (FIFO)-based service protocol which is appropriate for a multimedia ATM satellite system. The main area of interest is to provide realtime traffic with upper bounds on the end-to-end delay, jitter, and loss experienced at various service queues within a satellite network. Various service protocols, each based on a common underlying strategy, are developed ...

Guaranteeing Hard Real Time End-to-End Communications Deadlines

In a distributed hard real time system communication between tasks on different processor must occur in bounded time. The inevitable communication delay (termed the end-to-end delay) is composed from the delay in transmitting a message on the communications media, and also from the delay in delivering the data to the destination task. This paper gives schedulability analysis bounding the media ...

Explicit delay/jitter bounds for real-time traffic over wireless ATM

A high performance, frame-based, real-time ATM scheduler is proposed for the wireless multimedia environment. We introduce the Delayed Frame Queueing (DFQ) scheduling protocol which only defines the service priorities, deadlines and eligibility times of queued cells. The DFQ protocol does not define the particular fashion in which a mobile or base station gains access to the shared transmission...
